Trevor and Kaitlin's Visit

Trevor and Kaitlin came for a visit over the Thanksgiving Holiday. We were so excited for their arrival and to be able to hug them and kiss them. While they were here we did lots of missionary stuff and some tourist stuff. (Let's be honest...there isn't a whole lot of tourist stuff around here.)

One day we had a Zone Conference in Antofagasta which they attended. During lunch I snapped a few pics of the cute couple.

These three sat on the stage while the missionaries ate their pizza. This picture could have been taken in any chapel around the world.

They love their Top Siders.

We attended two wards on Sunday. Bellavista was the first stop. We chose this ward because a mission companion, Elder Jason Vargas, from Trevor's mission lives there. Trevor had a fun reunion with Elder Vargas and his family. Of course we had to take pictures outside the church.

We also took some pictures at the house before church.

Kaitlin was in awe of the housing here in the mission. This group of apartments next to the church were an example of typical housing here. You can see on the top apartment some dogs on the balcony. Kait and I started counting dogs in the city when she got here but lost count after just 1 day.

Our Sunday excursion was to an obscure sculpture way out in the middle of the desert called The Hand. We have driven past it so many times on our way to Copiapo but have never stopped. With the kids here we thought it a fun idea to finally stop and see what it is all about.

Needless to say, the hand is huge.

Trevor saying, "Give me five."

The wind almost took Kaitlin away. The desert is very windy.

Yes, Leland and I posed with the hand. We have to be tourists too.

Aren't they just adorable?

We took our visitors around town. This is the pedestrian mall in central Antofagasta. We got yelled at by a homeless man while on this walk. He called us "Satan" because he saw our name badges. Oh well, such is the life of a missionary.

Lunch at Don Pollo. The best meal in town.

Kaitlin and I tried to take photos around the supermarket to show the expansive choices in food. After two pictures we were stopped by security. But we did get this picture of the sugar aisle. Rows and rows of white sugar...but no brown sugar.

Kaitlin was disturbed that both milk and whipping cream are found on unrefrigerated aisles.

We went shopping for souvenirs. Trevor and Kaitlin searched and searched for some great reminders of Antofagasta. They brought home a few trinkets.

You can't see it in the picture but this man is making cotton candy with a foot pumped machine. He was very coordinated making the cotton candy and pumping his foot at the same time.

Downtown Antofagasta.

Trevor won his wish with the wishbone. Nery tried to throw it away because she thought it was just some ordinary bone. Hopefully the lovebirds wished for the same thing.

After many giggles and near catastrophes we had Thanksgiving dinner. And it actually tasted really good. Too bad Kaitlin didn't like the mashed potatoes (ja ja).

The Thanksgiving Portrait.

Master Chef for the day.

Pictures from a driving tour of the city. Alleyway in Anto.

The top of the city. This street goes all the way down to the Coast Highway.

Typical house is Anto.

A view from the top.

Trevor picked this flower from our driveway for Kaitlin. She said it was the first flower he had ever given to her.

Time to decorate for Christmas. I found this tree in our storage closet, bought up all the decorations at the local market last month and waited for Kaitlin to get here to help me because you can see how helpful Leland was going to be.

The lights are strange here in Chile.

The obligatory visit to La Portada. Two of my handsome men.

It's ALWAYS windy at La Portada.

It really is a pretty photo spot.

Don't jump Trevor...

Of course he had to do it.

One last trek to the mall. Found this funky hat at the Sodimac (Home Depot). Leland wouldn't let me buy it.

There was no Santa but his chair was available for pics.

A view of the city from highest building we could get into.

I cried when they left but Trevor will be back for Christmas. I love both of you very much. We loved hosting family for the holiday.
