Mud Run 2008

Last weekend we participated in the Camp Pendleton Mud Run. It is a 10K run which includes mud related obstacles. It's a challenging course but really fun. (Anything having to do with exercise is a challenge.) I brought a disposable water proof camera to capture some moments before and during the race.

Samantha Stapley and Max Saalberg joined in this family run. Samantha posed as Jillian Coons and Max filled in for Andrew. Andy and Jilly couldn't make it down here for the race. We missed you guys but had fun with Sam and Max.

Here are some highlights from the race.

Sam and I in our matching tanks. Don't worry, they're in the trash now because of mud stains.  Notice that my hair is straight before the race.  Things change really fast.

The boys in the race:  Dallas and Max.  They decided to be real men and run the race without shirts.  It was 49 degrees when we arrived at the base but warmed up to the 60s before the race started.

Three awesome kids.

It's important to stretch before any race.  What a bunch of posers.

Leland and I before the race.  It's still too cold to take off the sweatshirts.

Sorry the rest of the pics are out of order.  I uploaded them three different times and still couldn't get it right.  I'm a mentally challenged blogger.

Anyway, I climbed the wall into the mud and didn't fall on my face, which happened to me last time I ran this race.

Approaching the wall with trepidation.

A stream of water to walk through.  You'll notice Leland's hair is wet.  That's because fire hoses have already sprayed us down at the start of the race.  Can I say Cold?

You're going the wrong way!!!  Just wanted you to see the great droopy hair courtesy of a direct hit from the fire hose.

The starting line.  We're in the very back.

The last obstacle of the race is an army crawl through the mud and under flags that are just one foot above the water.  The key is to try not to get your face in the water.

Getting to the top of the mud hill.

Climbing the mud hill.  This is at the end of the race and I am one exhausted walker.  (You didn't think I ran this race, did you?)

Crossing the lake.  It's funny because everyone crossed with their arms out of the water because it was so cold, about 68 degree water.  Nice unstraight hair.

Approaching the lake.  Does this count as part of the 10K distance?

Next year I'm gathering all my friends for this event.  It really is fun and if I had trained maybe once, I could have run a little more.  Thanks to Leland for staying back with me.  The kids took off at the beginning of the race and we never saw them again, hence, no pics of them.  They were showered and waiting for us when Leland and I crossed the finish line.  Did I mention that you have to take a public shower (with clothes on) in order to get back on the shuttle buses?  More cold water.  And I paid good money for this torture.  I guess I'm a sucker for a good time.  See you all next year at the mudrun.
